While there are other databases or websites that provide records for dissertations, they may have no or a limited number of full-text documents or their coverage may be limited to specific geographic regions, subjects, or languages. Using multiple alternative sources would not provide equivalent coverage or ensure access to final, authoritative copies and would require additional staff time to locate and obtain materials. PQDT is indexed by multiple subject indexing services, including Web of Science (WoS). USGS has an existing subscription to the WoS and requires integration into this platform to allow USGS staff to search for and discover dissertations alongside articles, conference papers, and eBooks. No other commercial competitor can provide institutional integration with the WoS platform as it's exclusively provided by Clarivate (parent company of ProQuest). PQDT Global is the only known service that meets the Government's requirement for a single, comprehensive source of dissertation and thesis content with extensive international coverage, full-text availability, authoritative content, and integration with USGS's existing research resources.
