What the notice says

The Government awarded a firm-fixed price contract via an VA FSS contract but did not compete due to the following rationale: The requested Boston Scientific Lumenis UltraPulse Duo laser system is to replace an end of life laser currently in use in the operating suite at West Roxbury. The laser is the only FDA cleared C02 laser currently available in the commercial market that has the capability to deliver two distinct energy deliver pulse modes: Continuous Wave and UltraPulse. This capability gives surgeons the ability to choose which power mode is the best application for the patient; thereb… (show all)

y, ensuring a well balanced thermal impact to control the amount of hemostasis and as a result, produce better results. The staff are well-trained and familiar with the Lumenis UltraPulse Duo laser s operation and acquiring a different brand or model would incur additional expenses related to staff training and education. More importantly, a different branded laser providing these pulse modes would not be FDA approved. Also, standardizing to a single model across Boston campuses would streamline efficiency and significantly reduce inventory costs for disposables associated with the laser, such as fibers. Additionally, the Lumenis UltraPulse Duo Laser is upgradeable giving the facilities future capability to add advanced applications through a simple software update. No other CO2 laser system manufacturers on the market provide this capability. A letter of authorization was provided which states Melling LLC dba Melling Medical is the sole source distributor of all Lumenis branded products into the Federal Government and is included in this report and on file.

Value counts single-winner awards. "Shared" awards are multiple-award contracts that list every winner with the same total ceiling; that ceiling is not one company's win, so it is not added in. Revenue next to a ticker is the company's last annual revenue from its 10-K.

Investor context
  • $BDX reported $19.4B revenue in FY2025. The median single-winner award in these 13 past awards, $124K, is under 0.1% of that. 10-K

One award's total value against one year of revenue; many awards are paid over several years.

Latest awards

Materiality: one award's value as a share of the winner's revenue over the latest 12 months in its SEC filings (or its last fiscal year, as noted when you point at it). Low under 1%, Medium 1 to 5%, High 5% or more. Many awards are paid over several years, so this overstates a single year's share.
